2 Week Itinerary Check (March 20- April 4, Tokyo/ Kyoto/ Osaka)

Hi everyone! I will be going to Japan with my boyfriend and our friend next month. I have been to Japan a couple of times before; it will be the first time for the both of them.

Some info:

We are staying in Matsudo, Chiba. The hotel in Chiba is booked for the full 2 weeks, but we have also booked a hotel in Kyoto (2 nights) and in Osaka (1 night). Our JR Pass is for 7 days and will be active from Day 5 to Day 12.

* No solid plans for Akihabara, just want to spend the day exploring

* Taking early shinkansen to Kyoto, getting there around 8AM
* Nanzen-ji Temple/ Philosopher’s Path

* Walk next to Kamo River
* Check into Hotel
* These spots are all close in location on Google Maps, but I am wondering if we are being too ambitious?

* I am a bit lost on what to do this day, feel free to leave suggestions 🙂

  1. If you ask me, really bad location for the hotel and make no sense to have it for the whole 2 weeks, especially the part you go to Kansai.

    Also 5 to 12 is 8 days, not 7.

  2. Are you considering the monkey park while in Arashiyama near the Togetsukyo Bridge? Definitely worthwhile since you’ll be right there.

Day 7 is not possible, the earliest Hikari (JR pass does not allow Nozomi usage) gets to Kyoto around 9am and since it is cherry blossom season, things will be crowded, people move slower, you might have to wait for the second bus, etc. Kyoto is deceptively large. Also, temples close around 5 but you have a bunch of “no closing time” attractions (park, path, incline) during precious temple opening hours.

    I would also swap days 9 and 10, do Kyoto – Nara – Osaka on day 9 and stay in Osaka on day 10.
