I’m half Japanese and wanting to study in Japan

I’m 20 years old and living in New Zealand for 13 years. I can speak Japanese fluently but can’t read Kanji very well.
I’m wondering how hard or if it would be a good idea to study at a university in Japan? I’ve got family that I could stay so it could work out.
Any help would be great thanks

  1. I assuming you are talking about applying to undergraduate programs in Japan (not grad school, not study abroad via your New Zealand-based university).

Are you planning on improving your Japanese skills so that you can enroll in a regular Japanese university program, or would you have to enroll in an English-language program?
