このとけいはだれですか means “who is this watch”, asking specifically who the watch is…which of course, does not sound correct 😁
これはだれのとけいですか means “who’s watch is this” asking who the watch belongs to
If you are asking directly, while holding the item, you could simply say 「これ、だれの?」It is implied you are asking about the item in your hand
