Little question about making questions in japanese

Sorry for bad English beforehand.
So I’m currently doing the genki 1 workbook and I have a question for which I couldn’t find any help.

So when asking for example ‘whose watch is this?’ Should I say, ‘これはだれのとけいですか?’ or ‘このとけいはだれですか’. Maybe both wrong, idk.

  1. このとけいはだれですか means “who is this watch”, asking specifically who the watch is…which of course, does not sound correct 😁

これはだれのとけいですか means “who’s watch is this” asking who the watch belongs to

If you are asking directly, while holding the item, you could simply say 「これ、だれの?」It is implied you are asking about the item in your hand
