Leaving to go to japan for a week in may. Have pretty extreme anxiety && definitely will need some type of service for my phone && will also have to use a lot of google translate. I can’t seem to find what I’m really looking for? Any recommendations? Either a esim card for my current phone (but don’t want to lose everything on it), either some type of online service to provide data while there (airalo? good or not?) or a type of phone with great international service ($100-$200 price range). Thanks!

Do the standard international roaming plans not work in Japan?
For example, with Verizon in Europe my iphone is setup to just charge me $10 a day (for days that I need it, try to keep on wifi if not leaving coverage areas) and everything just works (I think it slows down data once you go over 500 MB in 24 hours but still works). Sure that can be $70 for a week but seems way cheaper than buying another phone or something.
