Itinerary check for 15 days in Japan – June/July 2023

I will be traveling to japan with my family of 4 for the first time and want to enjoy as much of japan as possible including temples, shrines, anime, manga, and cafes so I came up with this itinerary

Day 1:

\- Land in Haneda

\- check-in hotel

\- chill and relax in the hotel

\- in the evening just walk around the Tokyo tower area and chill.

Day 2:

\- Go to the Meiji shrine

\- Explore Harajuku

\- go to Shibuya

\- go to Shibuya sky around sunset

Day 3:

\- Nikko day trip

\- Leave as early as possible

\- Explore the shrines and history (will buy the Nikko heritage pass)

Day 4: (I’m not sure if I should add more stuff on this day)

\- Leave for Kyoto

\- Reach Kyoto around noon

\- Railway museum

\- check-in to the hotel

\- Kinkakuji (just 20 min from my hotel)

Day 5:

\- Arashiyama

\- Bamboo forest

\- The bridge

\- Sagano railway train ride and boat ride back

\- Ryoanji Temple

\- Nijo Castle

Day 6:

\- Fushimi Inari Shrine (as early as possible)

\- Rent Yukata (YAY!)

\- Walk around Higashiyama/Gion

\- Nanzenji Temple

\- Philosophers’ path (Maybe)

\- Kiyomizudera Temple (Should I do this in the morning or evening kinda confused)

\- Tea ceremony in the evening

\- Kodaiji temple (Maybe)

\- walk around and chill the rest of the evening

Day 7:

\- Nishiki market in the morning

\- Train to Osaka reach in the afternoon

\- chill in the hotel and then enjoy dotonbori (Will get the amazing pass)

Day 8:

\- Osaka castle and boat ride

\- Umeda sky building

\- Shintennoji Temple

\- Osaka bay area

\- Shinsekai

Day 9:

\- Nara (Day trip)

\- In the evening team Lab botanical (If have the energy) otherwise, just chill in Namba

Day 10:

\- Take it easy and get ready to go back to Tokyo

\- Reach Tokyo in the afternoon or evening and stay in a capsule hotel

\- chilling and walking around nothing much planned to this day

Day 11:

\- Early morning train to Hakone (will get the Hakone pass)

\- Do the Hakone loop

\- check in to ryokan and chill

Day 12:

\- If we aren’t able to see something on the previous day we will see that

\- Take the train back to Tokyo in the afternoon

\- check-in to the hotel

\- Team Lab planets

\- walk around Odaiba

Day 13:

\- Asakusa

\- Shinjuku area

Day 14:

\- Imperial Palace

\- Akhibara (Should be fun with Parents, also any maid cafes u recommend)

Day 15:

\- No clue genuinely what to do here any recommendations

Day 16:

\- Leave for the airport

I tried to make the Itinerary as diverse as possible so everyone in the family can enjoy it, Day 15 is what I’m confused about, don’t really want to go the Disney parks and all so any recommendation there would be awesome, otherwise will just chill and go with the flow.

Please recommend any changes or add ones to the itinerary, Thanks in advance.

  1. Day 10 you could start the day early and spend most of it in Hakone, or just say in Odawara in a hotel in Hakone, there is no reason to go all the way to Tokyo just to trackback to Hakone the next day.

    Maid Cafe you will likely have a better experience with a known one like @ home or maidreamin. The reason is that they likely have more experience with foreigners and you also know they are not sketchy places.
