Should I start italki conversation practice after I’ve completed Genki II.

I’m attending a language school and have done 3 semesters of the beginner course. At the end of which we can take the N5. It’s only once a week though. They are using Nihongo Shokyu Daichi for the textbook.

I’m also doing Anki on my own, reading Genki on my own and doing the Genki exercises. I intend to complete Genki I and II by my own. I also intend to continue with the school because I like the environment.

However I’m thinking I want more conversational practice and considering italki at the same time. But maybe it would be better to wait till I have finished Genki II?

If I select conversational practice in Italki, is it completely unstructured? Like every week we just chat about anything that comes to mind?

  1. It depends on you and your teacher. I found a really good one. For the first 20 lessons, we mostly did grammar. We realized listening is my huge weak spot, so last few lessons have been strictly listening.

  2. Italki’s not a service it’s a platform. The tutors each decide for themselves how they want to run their lessons. Look through some tutors profiles and find someone who’s teaching method works for you
