Hello, everyone! I will be going to Japan as a solo-traveler for 17 days in mid-April to the beginning of May. It’s my first time traveling to Japan so I would love any thoughts on the itinerary I have planned out so far.
I would *especially* appreciate any thoughts on my plans to take a day trip to ***Awaji Island*** from Osaka; I heard transportation there is fairly limited, so I wanted to get other people’s thoughts on whether this is doable or not.
I will be traveling around these areas:
**Numazu** (2 days) – **Hamamatsu** (2 days) – **Nagoya** (3 days) – **Osaka** (4 days) – **Tokyo** (6 days)
So far I have a lot castles, shrines, and local sightseeing places on my agenda, as well as some places based on my interests in music and anime. I don’t have any preferences against any possible suggests, but I may not spend as much time for “nightlife” activities compared to what I already have on my itinerary.
I am still thinking about the JR Pass and the best way to use it if I order one. Ideally I would start a 7-day pass in time for my trip from Osaka to Tokyo to use the Shinkansen but I would need to determine whether the Shinkansen trips in-between would at least cover the cost or help me save money overall.

I was just in a couple of these places. Numazu is awesome especially by the fish market/harbor and the draw gate for Tsunamis. You can take the number 1 bus to get there. It’s a small blue EV bus.
Hamamatsu the Pal Pal cable car ride up to the top is worth it. Great views especially if you go left at the top visitors center and get to the edge of the island.
Your schedule is very tight on a majority of your days. I would generally pick one spot in the morning to visit and on spot in the afternoon. You can push for two spots to visit if they are next to each other.
Anyways safe trip and have fun.
Osaka-Tokyo on the shinkansen is half the price of the 7 days JR Pass, so you absolutely need more than that to make it worth, yes a trip to Himeji can count in that, but it can also be done cheaply using a one day JR West Kansai Area Pass.
