I am planning to apply for masters in electronics engineering at Utokyo, TokyoTech and Kyoto University. My concern is I want to do my masters in English, Kyoto University website says they require candidates to pass a written test. Also it mentions “interview for interanational students only”. I want to confirm they don’t expect international candidates to come to Japan just to write the exam right. ie. we would only have to give interview online right?

They might. Students are frequently expected to come to Japan for testing. *Some* universities have implemented alternate testing options for international students, but you’ll need to ask the school about it.
I think you’re misreading the “only” in “interview for international students only”. It’s not saying international students ***only*** need to do the interview. It’s saying that ***only*** international students are required to interview. You will (probably) need to do both.
Depends on the lab, but when I interviewed for mine at Tokyo Tech, all they asked me to do was explain how an RC low pass filter works. Didn’t even have to take a written exam. lol
you have to ask them, my potential advisor ask me to be Japan in person…
