Where to get a Shiba Inu?

My Japanese is not so great. But we do want one of these dogs before we leave the country to bring home with us and give a furrever home. Happy to grab a translator if need be.

Any suggestions where to get one? On Kyushu.

  1. International air travel is pretty stressful on animals. Have you checked for Shiba breeders in your destination country?

  2. Animals traveling internationally is not easy. Tons of tests have to be done or the animal could be refused upon entry or even quarantined for months at a time to ensure it’s not bringing any foreign carriers into the country. Make sure to research the country’s policies that you’re entering well in advance!

  3. Your best bet is probably to contact a breeder and google translate your way through.
Breeders often have at least some experience with transporting animals.

But, check with airlines, your home country and Japan’s customs & borders agency. Dogs under a certain age often are not allowed to cross borders until 6months old or older

  4. They exist outside of Japan, you dont need to get one while you’re here. And please don’t support pet stores or breeders when so so many dogs in shelters are in dire need of a home, and I’m sure you can find plenty of Shiba Inu there.

  5. Wait till you get to whatever country you are going back to and get a dog from a shelter.

  6. Dogs are not souvenirs you buy before leaving a country.
Please don’t get one when you’re still here. Especially baby ones. They get so stress out by international travel.
