Hey everyone. A bit of a specific question but I couldn’t find much online. I will be moving to Japan in July and there’s a decent chance that I’ll need to get around in short distances that aren’t reasonable on foot but probably aren’t worthy for a car either. I was thinking of picking up a scooter – specifically, [this type here](https://www.mi.com/us/mi-electric-scooter/) – these are more common in Europe, but how are they regarded in Japan? Would I need a special license or registration? Are they street legal?
Any help is appreciated.
Thank you

To use a scooter like that you need a driver’s license, and that’s it. I’m not sure about all other questions, but if you want to go the non-license route, look up pedal-assist bicycles. Those don’t require a license but do have some regulations which are easier to find online

Hi lites from the article
– they’re considered the same as 50cc motorized bicycles
– you need the appropriate license to drive and must wear a helmet and install mirrors
– you have to have insurance
– no driving on sidewalks
I love the idea of these, but what do you do with them when you’re at your destination? Say you ride it to the train station, do you risk leaving it parked somewhere or do you have to carry it around all day?
