A business class passenger flying with Japan Airlines has recounted their surprise after being served a vegan breakfast consisting of a banana and nothing else. The traveler had requested a Vegetarian Vegan Meal and was even served cutlery and a pair of chopsticks with the fruit.
To be fair, it is vegetarian and vegan…
There are real people who make these decisions and they are never named. One has to assume they get to keep their jobs too.
I am not a vegan, but I did order the vegan meal for a flight once. It was literally one of the best dinners I ever had in my life, right up there with a couple hundred dollar per person French meals I had! So don’t go thinking all airlines are bananas!
Hey at least it was a vegetarian meal. I had a colleague fly JAL and request vegetarian when he booked, and they just gave him more of the little bags of peanuts lol
Japan is not a good country to be a vegan in. Stick with the American-run airlines if you want a good vegan meal.
As a vegan that’s depressing lol
Classing japan “What is not meat eating?”
I’ve flown with JAL numerous times as vegan, and this has never happened. They always had very well thought out meals.
I feel there is something missing to this story
Edit to add: it’s already commented at the top of the OP.
“As one commenter on flyertalk noted, Chari’s flight out of CGK appears to be the early morning 06:35 rotation (JL720), as opposed to the late-night flight (JL726) departing at 21:35, which, according to Japan Airlines’ website, does not serve up a breakfast. Checking out the regular business class menu for flight JL720 in February shows no mention of a breakfast service either, with travelers likely served a snack and refreshments before full lunch service a few hours later.”
I’m not sure if it’s true or false but to be fair, just I think people who are picky to not eat things by their choice should have just accepted whatever were served, especially when it’s served at least. It’s indeed ridiculous and outrageous of them to demand changing whole menu that has been announced beforehand even for free.
Vegans are my least favorite group of people. So much entitlement.
Flew w JAL, have a (mild) food allergy. They made a huge fuss over it—fed me only crackers. They said since it’s not one of the common allergens they couldn’t guarantee the food wouldn’t contain it and therefore wouldn’t serve me.
The way back I didn’t tell the staff n gambled with itchiness and tummy trouble bc I need to eat on a 14 hr fucking flight.
