Hello everybody, a few days, I go I received my new Amazon credit card and for my surprise, in comparison from other credit cards from other Japanese entities that I’ve already had, this one expires in one year whe the others in 5 or 6 years. Is this normal such short period, when the expiration day arrives will it be automatically or shall I ask for the renewal? I don’t have an account SMBC (issuer) and when I call it is only Japanese. Thanks in advanced!!

It’s not normal for Japanese but it is for foreigners. They issued the credit card based on your duration of stay. So I guess you are holding 1-year visa at the moment?

I have Amazon CC too and mine expires in 5 years, and my visa is 3 years.
I have long-term visa. I’m also 3rd gen Japanese.
I had this last year when I applied in March 2022. My Amazon Credit Card was valid up until February 2023.
When renewal came about, I got an email from Amazon and SMBC saying that my card had been updated through to 2030 on Amazon and to expect a new card in the mail sometime in the next few weeks and yup all came with no issues. Literally didn’t have to do a thing.
I don’t think it’s tied to visa length at all because I only showed my residence card last year, which stated one year, and haven’t been asked to provide a new one (nor is my current length close to seven years–I WISH!)
So, to answer your question, it’s likely they give you a one-year trial card and then extend from then if you’ve been good.
My first Amazon master card was good for I think three years (I applied with a one year visa). The first one actually took four months to get to me, and I thought it lost in the mail, so I had a second one sent. When the first one showed up months later, to my surprise it had the same card number, security code, and expiration date as the second one they issued me. They both worked, too, so when I reported the first one lost/undelivered they never canceled it, just duplicated it and sent it out. So I had two functional identical credit cards for three years. When they expired, Amazon automatically sent me a new one and this one lasts I think 6 years through 2028.
