So many people say they get rejected or put on alternate their first year and then accepted the second try. Is this a common thing JET does? Will this years 1st time applicants get declined? I’m a first time applicant and am curious will I get the boot? I’m going to have my interview in a couple weeks.

Hopefully this year we get the debut of Bryan Danielson in the G1 Climax: first-time dream matches v. Okada and ZSJ beckon (heck, a match against Great O’Khan would be a mat classic), as do intriguing rematches v. Shingo, Tanahashi, and KENTA. Maybe bring the whole BCC...

Because they knew what to expect/do better next time? If you get it right away, you won’t be talking about your application next time either. Silent data it’s called or something.
No, this year’s first time applicants won’t be declined like that lol.
At the end of the day, it’s a job application. There’s no point for them to reject potentially desirable individuals who may be a first time applicant. The people who succeed during the second try already have experience applying the first time, so they’ll be aware of what to expect more or less. Unfortunately, there are a limited number of spots. So naturally not everyone will be successful on their first time even if they were a solid applicant.
Don’t be bothered by other people. Just focus on your own interview. Good luck on your interview!
I was accepted on the first try, and so was every ALT I knew in my town and region. 乁( •_• )ㄏ
Most people I know actually get in on the first try…unless they’re bluffing 🤔
I have no idea why I got rejected still on my first try. I had my 2 letters of recommendation, bachelor’s degree with an English focus, some experience teaching from my internship, volunteer hours in a Japanese club, etc. But I didn’t even get to interview.
I didn’t apply this year since I decided to teach in Thailand instead to gain more experience teaching but hopefully when I apply next year I’ll get in.
I got in on the first try as well as others I know. Its just they only have so many shortlist spots and it’s a points based system.
I think different countries are allocated for a number of places
Not sure… I was accepted for an interview but rejected after my first time. I was accepted, shortlist ED, the second time.
I got in first try and so did my friend. But I’ve known people who applied for years and never got in
My personal theory is that
A) applying a second time after being rejected shows perseverance, and JET likes that
B) they get a lot of second-time applicants and those get priority (of course there might also be some second-time applicants who don’t get accepted at all)
But in my experience most people who got to the interview stage are already in pretty good standing. Just do your best in the interview and then if JET doesn’t take you that’s their loss. 🙂
