Adoption in Japan

Hi there. I was wondering if anyone in the sub has knowledge about the adoption process in Japan, specifically for foreign residents. My wife (Japanese) and I have one daughter but have struggled conceiving another. I have looked into adoption and it’s hard to find anything in English regarding the process. I speak Japanese well enough but do not read so well, so it’s hard to read the information there is about it in Japanese. Anyone been through this process or know of any informative links I could research or places I might call would be appreciated. Thanks and happy weekend all!

  1. Your city/prefecture jidosoudanjo or kodomosoudanjo 児童相談所 子供相談所) is the place to start. There may also be info in your city newsletter (there has been in ours) as there is a nationwide effort to move to fewer large children’s homes.
