Why are there only 4 Jisho definitions of が

**Particle**1. indicates sentence subject (occasionally object)

**Particle**2. indicates possessive (esp. in literary expressions)

**Conjunction**3. but; however; still; and

**Conjunction**4. regardless of; whether (or not) after the volitional form of a verb

  1. Dictionaries are not for learning grammar, unless they say “dictionary of grammar” on the front.

I presume you mean the EDICT based online dictionary called jisho – EDICT is a reasonable database for J→E specifically (not great the other way) and very useful for stuff like writing popup dictionaries or other helper apps but please recognise the limitations.

Japanese dictionary entry for が、incidentally, looks like this (don’t particularly recommend this to learn grammar either but the comparison is interesting)

  2. they only forgot three more that I know

が – you got punched in the stomach

が – how you answer “ya” if you are trying to speak English with your mouth full of pudding

が – first name, given by lazy parents
