Itinerary check! 8 day trip to Nagoya, Shirakawa-go, Hakone, Mt. Fuji, Tokyo

Hello people of r/JapanTravel! So I’ll be travelling to Japan in mid-April and this is going to be my 2nd time going there but my first time as a solo traveller. On my first visit, I was able to go to Kansai region so for this trip I’ll be focusing on Central Japan to Tokyo area. Not really sure if my itinerary is doable so I might need a little help

April 11, Tuesday (Nagoya)
– Arrival at Chubu Centrair Intl Airport at around 1250H
– Hoping to finish at immigration, baggage claim, sim activation at around 1330H-1400H
– Take a quick late lunch at the airport before heading to my accommodation
– Check in at accommodation then prepare to head out at around 1700H to explore Nagoya city a little bit
– Grab dinner and go back to hostel to prepare for tomorrow’s trip

April 12, Wednesday (Takayama/Shirakawa-go)
– Wake up early at around 0600H
– Activate JR pass before heading out to Takayama
– Explore Shirakawa-go for the whole day
– Try hida beef somewhere between shirakawa-go and takayama

April 13, Thursday (Hakone)
– Check out early in the morning and head out to Hakone
– Leave baggage at hostel
– Hakone Open Air Museum (2 hours)
– Go back to hostel to check in
– Gotemba Premium Outlets (3 hours)
– Thinking what to add for this day. Considering Mishima Skywalk but I think it’s a little too far (my accommodation is near gora station btw)

April 14, Friday (Hakone day 2)
– Explore Hakone for the whole day
– Take Hakone Tozan cable car to Sounzan
– Explore Owakudani. Try the famous black eggs
– Take Hakone ropeway from Owakudani to Togendai and take the pirate ship cruise at Lake Ashi
– Visit the historic Hakone-jinja shrine
– Also thinking on what to add here if I’m going to finish up early
– Try the onsen in my accommodation during the evening

April 15, Saturday (Tokyo)
– Check out at accommodation and time to head out to Tokyo
– Leave baggage at Tokyo station and head out to Imperial Palace
– Explore nearby attractions (Roppongi, Tokyo Tower) (anything that I can add here??)
– Wait for sunset at Shibuya Sky. Quick snap at shibuya crossing and hachiko
– Go back to Tokyo station and have dinner at Ramen street
– Check in at accommodation (Ikebukuro) and settle down

April 16, Sunday (Mt. Fuji)
– Head out to Shimoyoshida Station and climb the hill for Chureito Pagoda
– Walk to Fujiyoshida Honcho Street, take pictures, grab some light snacks
– Return to Shimoyoshida Station and take a train to Kawaguchiko Station to take the red sightseeing bus
– Go to Kawaguchiko Music Forest Museum and Oishi park and any nearby attractions
– Return to Tokyo and explore Shinjuku/Harajuku

April 17, Monday (???)
– Contemplating on what to do on this day. Cannot decide if I should go to Ashikaga Flower park then a day trip to Nikko to witness Kegon Falls
– Or if I should go to Hitachi Seaside Park/Ibaraki prefecture
– Any suggestions on where to go so I can maximize my JR pass. I really want to go to a flower park since I won’t be able to witness the full bloom of cherry blossoms

April 18, Tuesday (Tokyo)
– Head out to Tsukiji Market first thing in the morning and go on a food trip
– Go to Teamlab Planets before lunch time
– Go to Ueno after lunch then Asakusa, Akihabara or anywhere to shop for stuff

April 19, Wednesday (Last day)
– Flight’s at 1315H on Narita Airport so I’m planning to go to the airport by 1000H

Additional questions:
– Is my itinerary doable or should I change any destinations?
– Should I buy a JR pass? I know that not all of my destinations will be covered by the pass so I also plan on getting an IC card for convenience. I just want to experience the shinkansen to save me some time somehow
– Any restaurants worth trying that are accessible with my itinerary?
– Are skirts above the knee advisable to wear during this time or should I not risk it and wear pants for the whole trip? Also, is 2 layers of clothing enough like a shirt and a jacket or do I need to prepare heattech and stuff

Thank you in advance for all the help!

  2. If you are flexible on switching your day trip to Kawaguchiko, watch the cherry blossom forecast here (translate to English as needed) https://weathernews.jp/sakura/spot/4912/ to optimize your chance to see Mt. Fuji and sakura at the same time. Someiyoshino at Kawaguchiko area is anticipated to bloom during your days in Japan.
