Let me know what you think! The lighter activity days will be used to see anything we missed / discovered while there.

Some questions I have:

1. How easy/reliable is takkyubin service? I’m hoping my hotels will be able to help me set that up between cities. I’m especially weary about going from Kyoto to Fujikawaguchiko, as I’ll only be in the Fuji area one day and don’t want my luggage to be delayed, only to arrive at a hotel I’ve already had to leave. I suppose I should send it a day or so earlier and keep a change of clothes/toiletries with me to avoid this? Also, If I land in Tokyo at 2pm and use the takkyubin at haneda airport, will my luggage arrive at my hotel the same day?
2. Getting to Fujikawaguchiko in general is making me nervous. I find navitime difficult to use as it does not filter out non-JR shinkansen (seriously, what is the point of being able to filter by pass if it doesnt actually work?!). Seems like it will be a minimum of 5 hours which was muchhh longer than expected. Can anyone suggest an efficient way utilizing JR pass?

Thank you! °˖✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧˖°

  1. Nara isn’t on the Shinkansen, and if your only reason to go there is to see the deer don’t bother – they are aggressive and fairly unpleasant. Nara has lots of much better things to see, and warrants a full day. Osaka also deserves at least a day – I’d suggest picking one of the two rather than trying to squish both into a day.

  2. Send your luggage from your Kyoto hotel to your Tokyo hotel and travel light to your one nighter in between.

  3. The luggage delivery service I am aware of from Haneda wants your bags before 3pm for same day delivery to a Tokyo Hotel. Bit tight with you landing at 2pm and having to get through customs. I would plan for a night with what you can fit in your carry on.

  4. Lake Kawaguchiko might be better accessed from Tokyo for you rather than Tokyo. You have options of the highway buses and the Fuji Excursion train (partly covered by the Pass). It’s a 2.5 hours journey. You could go to Tokyo earlier, stay some nights then do your one nighter to the onsen leaving most of your luggage at the Tokyo hotel you will return to.

  5. Navitime does work well with the filters. Only JR operate Shinkansen, not sure what you mean by non-JR Shinkansen.

Going to Kawaguchiko from Kansai you have two main options. Take Shinkansen to Mishima station and bus to Kawaguchiko. Second option is Shinkansen to Shin-Yokohama 3 trains up to Kawaguchiko. Should be one train from Shin-Yokohama to the Chuo line, then one to Otsuki and finally one to Kawaguchiko, the last train is not a JR train and there is no JR option up to Kawaguchiko.
