can i drive gentsuki even if my license doesnt mention it?

I converted my european license to a japanese one. Ive had license in EU for over 20 years, of course manual transmission. However after getting my license my japanese friend thought it was weird that it does not explicitlly say gentsuki on it, it only says cars.

So what is the case? Can i legally drive a gentsuki on a car license? or are they seriousely implying i have to take a separate license to drive a fucking scooter when ive been driving a car for over 20 years?

  1. Yes you can. There’s a cc limit but not sure what. There’s actually a separate gentsuki-only license that you can get at age 16 I think. I believe it’s super easy to get.

  2. According to my Japanese husband, you can drive up to a 50cc moped/scooter on a standard drivers license. I’m not sure why you would want to but it’s legal as long as the displacement is not more than 50cc.
