Meiji Jingu is my favorite Shrine

1. For what reason.

   Me and some friends used to go to Kawasaki Daishi for midnight Hatsumode. Kawasaki Daishi is probably my favorite for sentimental reasons.

3. This was the first shrine I went to in Japan!!! It was really relaxing ultimately, so it’s definitely got a special place in my heart.

4. On the other side of the park just in Yoyogi is the Hachimangu Shrine. My wife and I lived in both Jinnan and Yoyogi when we worked in Japan, so both shrines are special to us. On certain holidays Meiji was a little too overwhelming, so it was always nice to have a smaller neighborhood-oriented shrine around the corner.

5. Shrines are just my favorite places in general.

   They’re usually so quiet and peaceful. I collect goshuin stamps and there’s a local shrine that does a new one every month. I’m there almost every month and have gotten to know the shrine maiden and her father/the priest. They’re really nice people and sometimes while I’m just sitting out there reading they’ll bring me a snack and a drink or something.
