Does anyone have pneumonic devices for remembering the words for ‘Open’ and ‘Close’? I know the words are ‘開けて’ and ’閉めて’、but I keep mixing up which one is which and it’s driving me crazy
In daily conversation, how do you express “retiring”, as in to quit work forever either due to old age or fortune? It seems 退職 can be used for this, but it can also just be used for quitting your job in general? I’m also aware of 引退 but I haven’t seen it used outside of sports and actors etc, so not sure how appropriate that would be for talking about my own future.
Hi,
I am at a point where I am starting to read (although this example is out of my league). Given this sentence. 学生という生物にとっては容姿がすべてだった。 I was able to break down the sentence to this;
* 学生 — student
* という— all/every
* 生物に — Life/creature
* とっては — Grip/handle
* 容姿が — Appearance/face/figure look
* すべてだった — Was entirely/everything
Appearance was everything for a creature called a student”
My question is, is google translate a useful resource for me to use to “validate” the meaning of a sentence? that is, i will break down and study the sentence, look at the particles, words and pick up vocabs. try to make sense of it, but i need to “validate” if i am close or not. what would you suggest for the validation part?
Another approach i am considering is taking a raw sub of some anime episode. find the same sub for English. do my sentence break down, etc..refer to the English sub to get sense.
Thanks in advance
In this sentence what does the か after 人 mean? Ive never seen it used like this.
彼に会えば、彼がいかに良い人か分かります。
Given translation:
“If you met him you’d realize what a nice person he is.”
I found this Japanese children’s poem about vowels, and I tried to translate it on Jisho. If I may, I’d like to request a “proofread” to see if it is correct. ありがとうございます。
It’s a bright morning sun, A, I, U, E, O. あかるい あさひだ あいうえお。
Good things, various things, A, I, U, E, O. いいこと いろいろ あいうえお。
Singing happily, A, I, U, E, O. うたごえ うきうき あいうえお。
Smiling on my trip, A, I, U, E, O. えがおで えんそく あいうえお。
Delicious rice balls, A, I, U, E, O. おいしい おむすび あいうえお。
I’m trying to say “Talking with a friend” and idk which particle to use.
My gut tells me to use に but I’m not sure I should trust it. を sounds weird but it’s the particle I’m the most familiar with.
When I tried to translate it I said “友達をしゃべっています。”
Which particle is the best in this situation?
Also if I wanted to say “I was coming home from work”
Which particle would I use between 仕事 and 帰りました?
What is the difference between
> 日本の生活で困っていることは**ありませんか**
versus
> 日本の生活で困っていることは**ありますか**
Don’t both imply the same meaning?
Sometimes when I’m cooking people will say おいしそう
How should I reply, if at all?
Can you connect i-, na-adjectives and nouns with their respective ~て forms? In Genki I just went through a mention of using adjective te forms, but it wasn’t mention what you can connect using these.
Can you say “彼はきれいで、優しくて、日本人です” ?
Didn’t know how to google this, thanks!
Hyoujumondai mondai chapter 26
