I need to take a local flight but my name got mixed up between passport and zairyu card

Hello, I want to book a flight from Kumamoto to Tokyo and wondering if the airport staff will be checking either of passport or my zairyu card? The thing is, name surname and family name got mixed up in the zairyu card (now my surname is my family name instead) and I haven’t got any chance to correct it to the immigration office ever since I arrived a month ago. Soon I need to book a flight to Tokyo and wondering should I be concerned about the name mixed up? Also, since the booking page will require my name, should I follow the order in zairyu card or passport? Thank you in advance.

  1. You can book your flight as Captain Kirk and still most certainly be fine. I’ve travelled domestically dozens times in the last 10 years and nobody ever check my ID, not even once (always check in online).

That said, you really should sort out your name on residence card as soon as possible.

  2. No ID checks domestically, it’s pretty much like taking the train. You have a ticket, you get in.

  3. The only trouble you will be having is to link bank account to cashless payment service like merpay, paypay ..

  4. AFAIK you don’t need a passport for domestic flights. I don’t recall ever being asked for ID for a domestic flight.

  5. Please note you might need identification that match the booking if you are planning to check a bag!
