Canadian, worked on a 28hr dependent visa at ¥2,300/hr
And made much more money than my supporter.
Upon renewal, after disclosing annual income the immigration officer had a massive problem with this.
So after 3 months of paperwork going back and forth and receiving a reduced 6month visa, (My supporter has 3 years)
Having had 2 interviews, with immigration officers. They still cannot tell me how much I am allowed to make. Or a maximum. Just saying
“Don’t make so much money. A lot less is better.”
As I see it… there is no fixed amount. The officers cannot give me information, online cannot give me information.
Can anyone point me in a direction of a safe amount I am allowed to make while on a dependent visa. As I would rather not get into trouble. And would like to receive more than a 6 months visa next time.
Thank you for reading, and I look forward to any information you can provide.

As far as I know it’s around 1mil yen in a year, because beyond that you will be subjected to income tax and other stuff. This article should be useful.
[配偶者特別控除と年収の関係をわかりやすく!103万・150万・201万の壁とは? | マネーフォワード クラウド (moneyforward.com)](https://biz.moneyforward.com/tax_return/basic/49699/#103)
A summary from what I’ve read in that page:
Beyond 1.03mil, you have to pay income tax.
Beyond 1.5mil, your supporter loses a 380,000JPY exemption.
So if you earn 1.4mil, you get to keep all of it, but if you earn 1.6mil, your supporter loses the exemption, hence netting you (1.6mil – 380k =) 1.22mil, less than what you would get if you earn 1.4mil
You’re supposed to be a dependent, that means also financially dependent too.
There is no set amount, (as immigration pointed our) but a good guideline is no more than ¥1.3 million per year, because after that amount has been exceeded you cease being a financially dependent spouse.
This must be the reason why my friend asks his wife to cap her income at 10.8man/month.
less then your spouse . If you earn more then you should be the supporter. But you can’t with that visa
