  1. I don’t know if sloths or owls are considered exotic, but I just walked past an animal cafe that had one in the front window. There were also three owls tethered to a tree nearby. They were all sleeping and seemed in good condition, but it broke my heart seeing them all stuck there, especially the sloth.

  2. The quicker they ban all these animal cafes, the better. Anyone who goes to them is contributing to animal cruelty.

  3. Fuck zoos, fuck aquariums and fuck these coffee shops. I hate them all. Animals shouldn’t be entertainment.

  4. I went to an animal cafe in Korea and saw the same type of horrible treatments. Lots of kids come to play with the dogs and pigs but the dogs were kept in very tiny cages and the pigs were so extremely malnourished. I can imagine it being the same in Japan…

  5. I love the concept of animal cafes, but I avoid any that keeps animals that aren’t social and used to people. Cats and dogs, cool (if the animals are treated well and people aren’t allowed to bother animals that don’t want to interact). The mini pigs are okay, since they’re also social and are being bred as companions.

I don’t think the idea of animal cafes is bad on its face, but any place that is keeping wild animals or animals that aren’t already socialized needs to go ASAP.

I don’t go the Shiba cafe, just because shibas aren’t very social dogs.

It’s important that the people who go to these cafes support the ones who do it right, and not reward the ones who are exploiting wild animals.
