Nishiazabu International Clinic and similar clinic never takes insurance?

Hey question about a fairly popular health clinic here. It seems that every time I get checked up at NIC for std, general, ect, they never accept insurance and I always have to pay in full despite having comprehensive company insurance. Has anyone has this experience? I would love suggestions for different clinics. Thank you!

  1. My guess would be that their target clientele are diplomats and people on expat packages/generally wealthy.

  2. Regular STD/general testing is not covered by NHI. You have to pay out of pocket for it.

If, however, you are having “painful burning urination” (ie you have symptoms) an STD test will be covered by NHI. In the future I suggest that you have symptoms that would warrant an STD test *nudge nudge wink wink.*

  3. Seems like they don’t take national health insurance. However if you have outside insurance the website says this:

“We can provide appropriate medical statements and itemized receipts for persons with individual health insurance who intend to file for refunds from their insurers.”
