Owner made us Unreleased Sushi items

The last post of mine got many positive reviews(Alabama small town sushi restaurant). So I decided to go back and try some more food. I showed the boss lady the Reddit post and she was very happy. So she told us:” no need to look at the menu, we’ll make you some special items that’s not coming out yet.” It was absolutely incredible, awesome experience!

  1. doesn’t look like there’s any actual sushi rice in there, so these would be ‘sashimi tacos’ or something similar. Probably not bad, but not sushi.

  2. If these were flour tortillas then maybe but there’s something jarring about the thought of combining raw fish with hard corn tacos

  3. Op, we’re those just like el paso hard tacos or were like freshly made by the restaurant? I want to believe they were made on site, but man do they look like they’re out of the taco kits I use for taco Tuesdays

  4. This looks like someone who is unfamiliar with both sushi and Mexican food tried their best.

This looks… bad. To say the least.

There are much better ways to have sushi fusion. I have a place near me that started in Mexico that has rolls with habanero and cilantro, crab stuffed jalapeño tempura, and plenty of other delicious.

As a Mexican I don’t think I could bring myself to touch anything prepared with some Walmart taco shell. Let alone that monstrosity.

  5. That’s happened to us at our favorite sushi restaurant. I do the reviews and photographs so she would bring me all kinds of things that weren’t on the menu yet to taste test. It was a lot of fun and always tasted very good.

You’re is all looks awesome to me

  6. Got a restaurant in Chico CA that does Japanese tacos. No crunchy taco shell, it’s tempura fried eggplant cupped into a shell shape filled with spicy tuna, sriracha, spicy mayo and some other goodness. Not to be rude, but I’d pass on what I’m seeing here.

  7. Damn OP. Getting a lot of hate here. Not sure why. Looks a little sloppy, but I’d probably give it a go. I don’t think I would pay a lot for it. I had a “sushi” burrito once that was fire. I mean I like the stuff my local Kroger sells, just have manage expectations.

  8. This looks interesting. Similar to how Taco Bell or Del Taco are not authentic Mexican food, there are plenty of people including Mexicans who eat that stuff. They take it for what it is, not what it’s supposed to be. If you and others enjoy the food, then keep going back and enjoying. Don’t worry about the purists. Doesn’t look like my cup of tea, but I’m not going to hate on anyone else who may like it.

  9. I would give the sushi tacos a shot, but with a WHOLE lot of trepidation, lol.

Edit: OP, thanks for sharing. None of us have eaten these things, and you were nice enough to take pics and show us – just know that they’re (hopefully) downvoting the idea of it, not you.

  10. Those tacos were probably really good. I can totally see a market for them and it will probably be a lot of people’s favorites. The crunch, the fish, the texture of the filling. I would totally try one.

It’s a unique fusion that is one of a kind. Who cares if it isn’t authentic. It’s experimental and, again, probably very tasty.

Pizza and sushi items tend bring the judgmental food critic out of a lot of people.

  11. If I could…

I LOVE creative food, especially something I’ve never tried before. So please keep encouraging the creativity. However…

Photo 1: please replace the taco shape with a tostada, and fry those fresh or don’t bother. Jesus.

Photo 2: that is…too much sauce.

Photo 3: looks like a penis bisection.

  12. Wow you people are negative. They just tried doing something new. Constructive criticism is great, but not just say that it looks shit and move on. Just because you wouldn’t eat it doesn’t mean everyone hates it

  13. Let’s just ruin two of the greatest hand foods in one go!

Sorry, but that is an atrocious insult to sushi and tacos.

  14. The little hearts are cute, and those tacos could totally be a thing with maybe fried wonton wrappers? That is neat that they let you try some of their ideas.

  15. Tempura fried nori paper is the only acceptable sushi taco shell. I’d still eat the heck out of all of that though 🙂
