  1. The real daily case number is much higher in reality.

The sad thing with asian culture is that under no circumstances should you question the person above you. That’s why some asian countries are stuck in 2020.

  2. The number of cases isn’t really as important now. With people and countries getting more and more lax in masking regulations, it’s a given that the number of cases will rise. What’s more important to pay attention to is the percent of serious cases. The percentage of hospitalizations and death. That’s what we need to focus on. A lot of countries are focusing on the wrong thing

  3. I’m getting really mixed messages here.

On the one hand they are reporting about the skyrocketing numbers daily. On the other hand they are looking to “downgrade” COVID to the same level as the flu.
So, is it severe enough to worry and report about daily or is it simply something we have to live with?

Or are we simply getting tired of hearing about it all the time and want to move on regardless of the actual severity of COVID?

    I’m seriously curious.

  4. If COVID gets reclassified to a lower risk level (like the flu), would that automatically lead to a lifting of mask, border, etc. restrictions?

Or would those other restrictions still need to be lifted in a separate motion?

  5. Japan finally getting with the times lol

Covid isn’t going anywhere and if you’re vaccinated then you’re fine.

I get that maybe downgrading would lessen the importance of it, but it has been a few years now and at this point if you get sick then you get sick.

  6. Funny that they’re willing to ignore case numbers but want to keep a strict tally of people entering the country 💅

They could always try forcing companies to telework so people don’t have to crowd on the trains or require people to wear masks on public transportation, but no, let’s just make sure all the healthcare workers get burned out.

  7. Anytime Covid pops up in this sub, it’s like going back to early 2021 with some of the comments. It’s amazing how slow information feeds into Japan. English speakers have no excuse though – pay for information and don’t base all your opinions based on social media.
