Car brake repair in Japan

Has anyone here ever had their car brakes repaired in Japan? If so how much did it cost and how long did the repairs take? I’m asking because I think mine are getting worn out. When I depress the brake pedal an audible crunching or thumping sound can be heard.

  1. Go to autobac or yellowhat and have them look at it. The inspection should be free or close to it. Brake pads “depending on the car” are anywhere from 7k to 9k yen. And about 12,000 for the actual repair.

  2. I have once been loosely quoted 4万 for replacing all brake rotors, have not gone through with the repair though.

It would be easiest if you just went to a shop and asked for a quote, they usually do those for free and it takes them maybe an hour.

  3. It’s going to depend on what type of vehicle it is, what’s actually wrong and the shop you go to. Your best bet is to take it to the shop and ask for them to look it over and get you an estimate.

FWIW, I got the front pads and rotors replaced on a Suzuki Swift during a shaken a few years ago and I think it was around an extra 20,000 tacked onto the bill.

  4. My dealer charged me 11,800 yen to replace the front brake pads on my kei during shaken, so you can probably get it cheaper than that.
