Anyone know about this textbook?

This is an upper-level textbook called 新日本語の中級. The amazon link is below, to get a good idea.

A bit more context: as much as I self-study, I really enjoy being in a class more- keeps me accountable and focused on studying, even when I’m otherwise very busy. For the class I’m taking- in Japan, for the record- I was informed this is the textbook they’ll be using.

Meanwhile, on my own, I’ve been going through Tobira. I can already tell you that the other textbook has much larger typeface, which is a plus in my book. Oh, and a ton of the kanji have furigana. What I want to know is, does anyone have an idea if the other book is above, below, or at about the same skill level as Tobira? Of course, I’m not sure if anyone here has even used the other textbook.

  1. One of the schools uses this book for N3. It’s a very old book. It’s very conversation based, less on the grammar, more on conversation. I personally think it’s a good resource if used in a classroom setting.
