Activities to include a disabled ES student

Hi everyone! I T1 for 1st and 2nd grade ES classes about once a month and, like the title suggests, I have a disabled student that I realized can’t participate in some of the activities. She’s in a wheelchair and she has some developmental delays. Whether it’s something the whole class can do or something I can help her do one-on-one, I’d love to make sure she has fun in class. Do you have activities that you use with your ES kids in the special education program?

  1. If they all have tablets, do Kahoot! Just make sure your settings allow for enough time to read out the answer options for slower students. You can do the team option too

  2. If a game requires students to stand up and sit down, you can have her raise her hand instead. That way she can still participate.

  3. There’s a special education teacher in the school. I bet that would be a great source of good advice in general and great advice for that one individual student in particular. You have a fantastic resource right there in the same building with you. Use it.
