Hiroshima style okonomiyaki… Elsewhere?

Does anyone know any places in/ around Tokyo and Kyoto that serve the hiroshima style okonomiyaki (ingredients stacked up rather than all mixed together).

I had it on a trip to Hiroshima 6 years and literally haven’t stopped thinking about it. I’m planning another trip to Japan, but don’t plan to go back to Hiroshima.

Is there anywhere else I can get this food?!

  1. Yes it is commonly available. Google maps, Tabelog, hotpepper.. Literally any food search will present to you results.

Just because something has a specific area in it’s name or is a regional dish doesn’t mean you can only get it in that area. Amori Apples, Kobe Beef, Miso Ramen -> Hokkaido.

  2. We had amazing Hiroshima Okonomiyaki on the lower level of the Kyoto station. When you leave the station you immediately go downstairs and there was an huge mall/food area. I don’t remember the name of it but it had maybe 10 seating tables with grills on top. The chef prepares it then you keep it warm on the grill. It’s was amazing. I wish I had the name, sorry…

  4. Had amazing okonomiyaki hiroshima style at Buchiumaya in Tokyo – 7 Chome-22-34 Nishishinjuku, Shinjuku City, Tokyo 160-0023, Japan. 1,5 years ago and I still think about it regularly haha.

    Highly recommend!

  5. As others have said, you can definitely find Hiroshima okonomiyaki in Tokyo, and I’ll just echo others in saying that: Tokyo is freaking huge, with some internet sleuthing you can pretty much find every type of food/dish from every corner of Japan, and hell, probably every corner of the globe. I read (anecdotally) that Tokyo has something like 300,000 restaurants. Hell, I’m from Portland, OR, and there’s a freaking Portland-themed bar complete with imported beer and food *from* my home town (super surreal). With Tokyo I feel like you’re really only limited by imagination (and I guess budget, haha).

  6. I went to Lemon-ya in Shimbashi a few years ago, it was pretty good. Nice grilled Hiroshima oysters as well. Seems like it’s moved over by Takadanobaba station since I was there last

  7. I know this is about travel but did you know you can get okonomiyaki flour in the US? We started making our own at home, has become a regular appearance on the dinner table. It’s sad we can’t go to Japan right now, but at least we can have okonomiyaki. (And takoyaki – we got a takoyaki maker too. )

  8. If you end up in Akihabara, this is the place I went to, was very good (granted, it’s the only time I’ve ever had Hiroshima style). The lady serving us gave us shit for asking for Sapporo and I’ll never forget her for that lol. Hope I see her next time I go.

  9. Teppan Baby in Tokyo is excellent. I went to the one in Shinjuku but I believe a new location opened in Shibuya pretty recently.

  10. I had delicious Hiroshima style okonomiyaki at Daikonman in Shimokitazawa and at Chobo-chobo in Kyoto, which btw, is run by an extremely sweet husband and wife duo!

  11. I’ve been quite a few times to Teppan Baby in Shinjuku like someone else had suggested.
It was so good I just had to keep going back 🙂

  12. We had some in a really nice place in the streets beside the Asakusa shrine.

Unfortunately I neither know the name nor remember the exact location from the map.

  13. If you are ever in Sapporo, there is a spot I visit every year during the Snow Festival called Hina-chan (広島風お好み焼き ひなちゃん on Google Maps) along the Tanukikoji Shopping Street directly across from the Hotel Sunroute. Excellent Hiroshima style okonomiyaki.
