Hello, I really need some advice or recommendations for what I should do. I’m really interested in studying in Japan and I have already told my friends and family about my plans to go this year after I graduate high school. However, I have been waitlisted by Waseda, my first choice, but accepted into TUJ. With no other options, I really only have TUJ. i have heard many negative reviews about the school and campus in general however, so I’m at a crossroad. I’ve self-studied Japanese to a conversationally fluent level (probably N2\~3) and my GPA in high school is very good (4.6 IB Programme).
My plan currently is to enroll in TUJ and when possible apply for a transfer or admission into better, more reputable Japanese universities. However, I have no information regarding how transfers would work, and whether or not my student visa would be in jeopardy during the transfer. If anyone has any ideas or recommendations it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

TUJ is entirely a bad idea. I wouldn’t enroll there if my life depended upon it.
Transferring isn’t very common in Japanese universities. I know that only one school at Waseda does it (SPSE), and other reputable schools such as Todai, Tokyo Tech, Keio, etc., don’t do it.
I’d just cross my fingers for Waseda admission, honestly.

The restaurant I wanted to eat at tonight had no reservations available, but this raccoon I startled in the parking lot dropped a hotdog before it ran off. Should I eat that instead?
Serious answer: do what Japanese kids do, wait a year and apply again. Get an internship, do some volunteer work, stuff that might make your application look good. Don’t waste your cash on that school just to get to Japan a year earlier, the country isn’t going anywhere.

It will never be possible.

Transfers are not a thing in Japan.
Just google “Temple University Japan Reddit”
Thank me later. I know you want to transfer but don’t bother wasting your time or money there, even for one term.
Did you not apply anywhere else? With that GPA, you could easily have gotten into some decent schools in the US, Canada, Europe etc.
