  1. This system is so stupid, I know. If you know anyone who might be willing to help, put their phone number on your bank application. Then get a SIM card and change your number on an ATM. That’s how I did it.

  2. Do you not have *any* credit card? Even a non-Japanese one?

If you have one from your home country, you can use Mobal to easily get a sim-card and have it charged monthly to your CC.

  3. Try GTN Mobile, you can get a sim card without a bank account. They will send mobile bill to your address monthly and you can go to the nearest convenience store to pay up.

  4. Where are you staying at? If you’re staying at a sharehouse/hostel with a front desk/landline phone, might be possible to use the front desk phone number temporarily before changing it after you’ve got yours.

Or like someone else mentioned here, use your work office number first.

My friend said when they first came here, he could negotiate with the bank person to give them his phone number after he registered for one but YMMV. (JP Post bank, btw)

  5. You can get an iijmio sim with a foreign credit card and the rates are some of the best 🙂
