So is there an official word on if this is Tsuyu 2, electric boogaloo?

My weather app says it’s supposed to be rainy for the next like two weeks. I remember seeing on TV that tsuyu was officially done but it feels like it came late instead

  1. the last few years the summer weather in Japan has gotten crappier every year… I remember it being sunny most of July and all of August.. Last year.. it rained most of August.. like every day… dreary

  2. Yeah, the term is 戻り梅雨 (Modori-Zuyu) for a second rainy season in the year.

  3. The weatherman cares about what the weather does but the weather does not care about what the weatherman said. They said the rainy season was over. That’s because they used to be able to predict it better based on some monsoon leftovers floating our way from the continent in the past. These patterns have changed because we’re destroying the climate. So the OG tsuyu may be finished but that doesn’t mean there will be no rain after that. We’ve seen shorter OG rainy seasons and more precipitation spread out after that the last couple of years. Japanese media *love* talking about the weather. Putin could be blowing off half the globe in an atomic hell scape tomorrow and News 7 would still lead with a ten-minute piece on how it’s hot in Tatebayashi. So they report on pointless things because it’s a tradition and maybe expected by consumers. So they must report on the end of the OG rainy season although it is becoming pointless. It’s a bit of 1984 we’ve always been at war with East Asia but for the climate denialism mixed in as well.

  4. Humid and wet up here in Hokkaido. Haven’t had any good dry summer weather yet and we’re already creeping into the second half of July.

  5. We’ve had rain predictions nearly every day for the past month down here in Fukuoka. Most days no rain and various amounts of sun. I think it’s just this year it’s very unpredictable. Yes, climate change may have something to do with it but climate is long term changes, this is just an odd year at this point. If it continues being like this every July for 10 years or so we can say it’s climate change

  6. It was dumb to announce that tsuyu was over, it was on pause while that warm front brought a week long heatwave. Now its back and wetter than ever.

  7. Remember that meteorology while a scientific endeavor is still more of an art. This year doesn’t seem to be too out of the norm. Just be happy that the rain clouds are keeping the temperatures lower than normal. Maybe we will be spared some of the 40+ degree days. Other than that if you want to know why, try googling Climate Change and Global Warming. I think you will find what you are looking for there.

Edit: oops I also forgot to add: Remember that Tsuyu isn’t a real season so if it doesn’t happen then it is okay. Because “JAPAN HAS FOUR SEASONS”.

  8. Guess it depends on where you get your weather report from. This mid-July rain was forecasted last month so I tried to get all the laundry done in the first week. It helps to check the air pressure map instead of just listening for 梅雨 and 雨.

  9. idk if it’s Tsuyu or or typhoons or what, but we’ve had some chonky rain down here lately and I’m all for it after the shitty heat. At least the rain doesn’t give me screaming migraines.

  10. I’ve been living here for 25 years. The rainy season ends in mid-September. believe nothing else.

  11. Looking for rain jackets online and estimated delivery for most isn’t until next weekend. Sasuga.

  12. The weather agency wants to think it can control the weather, so they announce when a season starts and then tells the population how many days earlier or later the date is compared to the average or prior year. Schools also open and close windows and allow the heater to be on based on a particular day, regardless of the actual weather.

Reddit-heads and weather forecasters incorrectly stating that the last heat wave is man-made are suspiciously quiet this week now that it is back to normal. In the course of millions of years, a few days of abnormality does not make a trend.

  13. They didn’t even get the first one right. They claim it was in June but in reality it was in May.

  14. They also made it sound like the heat wave we had a few weeks back would last all summer.

  15. Ou local pool was closed for 4 of the hottest weeks I can remember, every day it was pure sunshine, scorching temperatures, perfect, perfect swimming weather. The pool was crystal clear, golden sunsets etc.The operators would not let us swim because Tsuyu, だめ. They gave us the old story that it was being “cleaned”.Tsuyu officially ended and now we’re all allowed to swim, except of course the pool is cold from all the rain, the weather is crap and no one wants to go near the place. The good news is, it’s only open for 5 more weeks, then it has to close again for autumn.Ha ha haaa
