“sanzun or sanmin”

慣例的に詰める割合は、三寸とも三分とも。

This is about Yubitsume ritual, cutting off a finger. I can’t understand the part it says “sanzun or sanmin” or “3 inches and 3 minutes” ?What? It is like trying to explain how long they cut their fingers.

  1. I think it is read as “3sun tomo sambu tomo”
“sun” and “bu” are both old units of length. (syaku>sun>bu)
“bu” is happened to use the same kanji as minutes today.
