Futon rental

Hi there. I am crashing at my friend’s place in Tokyo and would like to rent a futon set. Let me know if you have any recommendations!

  1. Rental futon set sounds kinda gross. My recommendation is to type in “布団セット” on Amazon Japan and you will find the Deal of the Day for a brand new 4-piece set is 4744yen. Delivered by Saturday.

  2. If you don’t find anything else, you can get a cheap sleeping bag from daiso (they’re about 1000¥ iirc)

  3. There was a thread on this a few months ago, try search the sub as there were a ton of answers.

  4. Get one off Amazon, shouldn’t cost you more than 5000 yen for a basic 3p set.

  5. You can get an “air mat” on Amazon for like 3,000 yen. Super portable, rolls up into little pouch like a sleeping bag. I don’t have one myself but the reviews seem decent enough.

It’s basically a smaller, single size version of an air bed. Seems like you can use your foot to inflate it (not sure how but I saw a video of it) so no reverse vacuum cleaner or other device needed.

Plus, futons are not exactly the pinnacle of luxury anyway so you’re not losing out on that much comfort (especially if it’s only a short stay) and the other benefit is you can just take it with you due to size and weight, you win, environment wins, everybody wins (Amazon wins big).

As long as your friend can lend you a blanket for your stay you’d be good to go.

  6. Air mat, they come in handy a good camping “sleeping pad” is useful for a lot of things.
