What is the best university in Japan for international students?

Hello!

I know that it is a basic quedtion, but I would really like to know about it, as the Internet is quite ambigous.

I am asking generally, without specific areas or subjects.

What is the best overall university for foreign students, with good education, people and opportunities to learn about Japan?

  1. As far as I can tell, the only way I can answer this is if you establish how diligent and rigorous you want your education to be. Some places I know are absolute cakewalks while others have proven to be a bit more of a demanding and strict experience.

If you want a middle of the road answer, go to TUJ. It’s an English language education with a good handful of international students from Australia/Oceania, Europe, Japan, and of course the states. It’s also super easy to get in if you’re clever, since if you can be admitted to Temple University at any other campus, you can skip admissions for TUJ by just forcing yourself into TUJ through a change of program. I had trouble making admissions work for TUJ since I wasn’t the best student and didn’t meet some of their requirements, so I studied the rules and found the loophole I just mentioned.

People say the educational experience is lukewarm at worst for some majors, while others have solid options and networking opportunities. There’s a lot of communications majors here too, with neat little projects sprouting every other day to get involved in. And there’s activities and friend groups for all types of people. Heads up though, it’s a small campus limited to basically an office building sized plot of land with a nice field and gym on the plot, so don’t expect a vast landscape of glorious ancient trees and hills.

I have also heard Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University is a pretty neat option, but I don’t have any personal knowledge beyond hearsay. It’s also all the way out in Beppu which is located on the east side of Kyushu island. I think it’s kinda a mix of being serious on campus but acting like a spring breaker off campus? But I really don’t know.

Good luck, I’ll see if I can answer anything else if you can clarify your questions!
