Did earning MBA in Japan help you find a job even not knowing how to speak Japanese?

I’m a 36 yo experienced expat accounting professional working in Shanghai for 8+ yrs. I always wanted to move and work in Japan. Do you think taking MBA will help me find a job there like with an MNC company despite not knowing how to speak Japanese? I plan to study Japanese after.

Also, tried searching online but I don’t seem to see any EMBA offerings, any idea?

Thanks!

  1. I can’t speak for accounting, but my husband has an MBA (from a pretty good, top 50, US school) and he’s talked to some recruiters. They all seem to say, “Let us know when you’re at least conversational in Japanese.”

Your experience may be different, but that’s what we’ve heard so far. And we live in Japan.

  2. I work in public accounting in Japan and I think Japanese skills matter more than an MBA. Personally, I feel like you don’t need an MBA unless you want to work in consulting firms (which usually require at least N1 Japanese level anyway).
