Mental Health Resources

Obligatory posting on mobile warning. Hi, I’m turning 18 come April and I want to see a psychiatrist to get tested for ADHD and OCD, maybe autism if I can afford it. I’ve been struggling with the symptoms of these issues all my life and my parents have refused to get me tested for fear of me taking medication. I have health insurance under my dad’s company and I’m curious about two things.

1. Will he find out that I’m using his insurance for mental health services? If so, can I make sure he doesn’t? If not, do you haven any recommendations on which course of action to take?

2. Do you have any english-speaking psychiatrist recommendations? I’m near Yokohama but I can travel to Tokyo. No expensive doctors, please, I can’t afford anything too costly, maybe around 4000 yen a month maximum, but more if I get a job soon 🙂 Preferably, that 4000 yen includes the medication.

I want it to have nothing to do with my parents. The most I’m willing to involve my parents in would be me asking my mom to vouch for my symptoms, but they absolutely cannot know if I’ll end up getting diagnosed and prescribed some meds. Please don’t ask me to talk to them, I’ve tried before and I don’t have the energy to fight a losing battle now.

I don’t need counseling/talk therapy that much, I have counselors I can confide in.

If it helps, I’m on a dependent’s visa, I don’t speak any Japanese, and I’m applying for uni here. Thank you 🙂
