The dorm room lox sushi roll didn’t work out. I rolled it but without a bamboo roller I wasn’t able to firm it up. My shitty knife was too dull to cut something that delicate and I only ended up with 2 shorty pieces. Tasted incredible though

  1. I bet it still tasted great 👍! I think, with the lack of equipment, a handroll would be more user-friendly. You can cut the nori in half with clean scissors or fold it in half and tear it like paper. I’ve got a couple videos of me making these for my kid, but I forgot what the rules for sharing YouTube videos on this were. Great job!

  2. Good job! You made do with the tools you had, I’d call it a success/win. Based on your tittle you know where to start. That said I’d like to see future posts and what I am certain will be progress.

If you don’t have a sushi roller maybe some construction paper or more ridged but playable material will help with the rolling.

  3. MUHFUCKIN LOX ROLL.

I can’t believe I’ve never thought of that.

Lay out the lox. Cream cheese. Cucumber. Capers and onion. Roll, top with everything seasoning. Rice or no, that’s gonna be bangin.

  4. Knife paradox: You can sharpen even a cheapo knife, but with what it costs to get a working sharpening setup, you can get a better knife. Oooh, better knife!

Then the better knife needs sharpening anyway.

I loved the suggestion someone made of using construction paper to shape sushi rolls when you don’t have a bamboo mat, that’s clever.

Keep it up! You are probably the best sushi chef in your dorm already.
