  1. Name: Sengan-en (仙巌園)

    Description: Historical Shimazu Family Home

Google Maps Link/Access Info: [Google Map](https://www.google.com/maps/place/Sengan-en/@31.618172,130.5786269,15z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x596ea6c552fa083f!8m2!3d31.618172!4d130.5786269)
    9700-1 Yoshino-cho, Kagoshima City, Kagoshima 892-0871

    Website: https://www.senganen.jp/en/

    Cost (¥): 1000-1500 entrance fee

About: Sengan-en is the historical home of the Shimazu family. The site includes beautiful gardens, remnants of the first “modern” factory in Japan, stunning glassware, and one of the only shrines dedicated specifically to cats in Japan. See amazing historical artefacts and learn about the powerful family who almost single-handily brought western modernization to a still feudal Japan – staving off western colonialization happening to other Asian countries at the time.

I would recommend this to: People who have a fascination with history; epically surrounding the Meiji Restoration. Additionally the gardens, events, and the view of Sakurajima will excite nature and Japanese culture lovers.

  2. Name: Yakushima Mount Miyanoura Hike (Kagoshima)

Description: Overnight hike to Kyushu`s highest peak with a great deep forest trails and peak views.

Google Maps Link/Access Info: Jetfoil or slow ferry from Kagoshima to Miyanoura/Anbo (only jetfoil for Anbo) and then bus + walk or taxi to trailhead.

Cost (¥): You can sleep in the mountain hut for free or set a tent outside (recommended during Covid-19) and pack your own food. Transportation is the main cost ranging from 10000 Yen to 20000 Yen if you depart from Kagoshima roundtrip. Cheaper if you are willing to take overnight 12 hour cargo ship.

About: One of the best hikes I have done in my life. It offered a mix of everything and moderately challenging. You get to see many deers and monkeys along the way as well.

I would recommend this to: Nature lovers, moderate level and experienced hikers.

  3. Name: Glocal Bar Vibes (Kumamoto)

    Description: Shochu bar

Google Maps Link/Access Info: [Google Map] (https://www.google.ca/maps/place/Glocal+BAR+Vibes/@32.8015278,130.7059023,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x3540f40d1fa70001:0xc11e18b0246fb35b!8m2!3d32.8015233!4d130.7080963) 〒860-0807 Kumamoto, Chuo Ward, Shimotori, 1 Chome−5−6 ARITA Bld 3F

Hours: 8 PM – 11:30 PM, closed every Sunday and 2nd Saturday and Japanese Holidays ([check website](https://vibes222.wixsite.com/website-1))

Cost (¥): ¥600-800 a drink, or flights available for ¥1500/2200

About: Bar run by a friendly English-speaking bartender who enjoys teaching travelers about shochu. The enthusiastic Nori-san will put together a tasting flight based on your preferences, and also facilitate conversation between the Japanese locals, and foreign travelers. Food is limited but the bartender can order in sushi from a nearby shop.

I would recommend this to: People interested in shochu/spirits, drinkers who want to meet other drinkers.
