I was taught that the best way to learn is teach so here is a fun way to learn hiragana through anime!

I have tried everything learning Japanese and finally found a groove using a book by Timothy G. Stout and pimsleur/mango languages! This is me trying to make learning hiragana fun! Onegai-shimasu I am worried that there are errors in the video. If anybody could check it for me please help.

  1. I would say your biggest error is probably pronunciation. If not for the subtitles, I don’t think I’d know what you’re saying a good portion of the time.

Right from the get-go you pronounce は as Wuh, and 時間 (jikan) as Jitan. You also use 早く(hayaku) and spell and say it like haiku. Later in the video you say 青い (aoi) but pronounce it like owie. You don’t enunciate each character. They just flow as if you are speaking English. And a big mistake, in my opinion, is pronouncing borrowed words from English, exactly the way you would say them in English. You said lesson, which you can use a word like 授業 (jugyo), but you were going for ブレッソン (ressun) which is fine. But you pronounced it exactly like you would in English. It is still a Japanese word, so it should be pronounced the way its characters are written.

I think it’s cool but you are having fun making videos. There might be other ways though for you to learn without necessarily teaching. There’s just a lot of mistakes here, and it’s not the sort of thing you would want to pass on to a new learner. You might be better off making videos about what studying methods, work the best for you. Maybe what resources you use etc. And You can still do all the silly stuff like in this video.

  2. I personally think it was a fun video to watch :). definitely full of mistakes as the other comment mentioned, but fun nonetheless. I do have to agree in saying although this was a fun video, it’s not necessarily one that can be recommended to beginners as they would not be able to tell what’s an error and what’s not.

teaching is definitely a way to learn, but maybe as an intermediate teaching a complete beginner…if you are also a beginner trying to teach another beginner, you might make more mistakes than you realize and the person you are trying to teach will think they are learning correct information.

If you truly want to make videos about the language, like the other post mentioned, maybe talking about resources might be the best way initially, maybe posting shorts about small things you are finding out about the language and culture as you are learning that surprise you…maybe using them as a way to engage the community…once you get more experience then maybe start teaching people the stuff that to you would seem too basic.
