Watashi Wa Ne (name)tte Iimasu explanation.

I heard someone introduce themselves by saying. “わたしはねジョンスミスっていいます”

I’ve never heard this phrase before. Can someone explain how this works?

  1. What exactly do you don’t understand?

ってcan be replaced with と does it make it clearer?

  2. ~はね is sort of a filler thing. It doesn’t really have a translatable meaning, and is sort of akin to throwing “like” everywhere in English. Maybe the person is nervous and reluctant to say something. Maybe they’re stalling for time to formulate their thoughts. Maybe it’s just become a speech habit.

You’ll *very often* hear it in 実はね…

って in this case is the casual form of the quotation marker と

The rest of the words speak for themselves.
