Hello everyone! Unfortunately, the tooth I had root canal treatment on back home fell apart.
Is there any chance I could get some sort of replacement covered by the national health insurance?
I tried researching online but am getting mixed messages whether it’s possible. Some posts say that the ceramic replacements aren’t covered but there are cheaper alternatives.
Any advice would be appreciated. I’m based in Kansai.

Yes, your insurance will cover your dental treatment.
All non cosmetic dentistry is covered. Depending on where it is in your mouth NHI may or may not cover a ceramic. I very well could be wrong but I think it’s the back 3 that aren’t? A metal one on my very back just cost me about ¥10,000 all up cause he decided to re-do the canal which takes a few appointments here. In any which case it will likely take multiple appointments a week apart.
Also fyi, whether it’s covered or not, it counts for the medical expenses deduction once you hit 100,000¥ in the calendar year.
I’m getting an implant to replace a molar that split in half and had to be pulled out. It’s gonna cost me about 450,000¥ but with the deduction i’m getting something like a 35% effective discount.
