As your residence permit is tied with your status as a student, not being a student means your permit will be revoked as well. As far as I know you’re allowed 30 days from the day you withdraw to prepare for leaving the country.
If you are withdrawing, or taking a leave of absence, you would be required to [notify immigration](https://www.isa.go.jp/en/applications/procedures/nyuukokukanri10_00014.html) that you have left your school, and leave Japan within 14 days of the start date of your withdrawal/leave of absence. If you need to stay for longer than that, you must contact immigration and complete the procedure to change your SOR accordingly.
If you are taking a leave of absence, before you return to continue your studies, you’ll need a new COE from your school, to get a new visa at that time.
