Is it possible to find an Recruitment job in Tokyo/Osaka as a 3rd country national with no knowledge of Japanese?

I’m graduating soon with my degree in HR Management and I’ve been working part-time with a company here managing their recruitment. Even though my title says “Intern” I really am in charge of the whole recruitment department, so I’d like to think I have some food experience and insight into recruitment.

I’ve been trying to explore what countries I potentially move into and Japan looks like a dream country for me, but realistically, can I actually fine a recruitment job in oksaka/Tokyo? What are my chances?

  1. Probably you will get better answers but: I have been working in Recruitment for some years, and I have been snooping and casually trying to move to Japan for a while now: bottom line is, to work in HR you need Japanese. Some startups are starting now to accept English speakers as well.
Best chance for you would be, as I am trying, to find an international company that has a Japanese branch. Start somewhere else and then ask to be transferred

As an in-house recruiter? Almost certainly not. HR in Japan is, not surprisingly, the domain of Japanese speakers.

You could *maybe* find work with a dedicated recruiting firm, but… Honestly it’s still not likely. There aren’t *that* many roles available, and there is a fairly large pool of potential applicants already in country. The number one path for English teachers to leave that industry is to move into recruiting. Experience would potentially matter, but being perfectly frank: A single internship is not going to open many doors.
