I have a question about taxes (kakutei-shinkoku).

I am planning to start some side jobs online and I plan to make a payoneer account and receive pay there.

My question is, at which stage of the transaction should I report taxes? 1) When I receive the pay on payoneer or 2) when I transfer my payoneer balance to my Japanese bank account?

I once heard that tax inspection here can pick apart different accounts and attempt to tax all of them in the worst cases, so I would like to keep it clean. Thank you.

  1. When you receive the payment. In Japan taxes are self reported, so how would they pick accounts? Unless you get audited but then you have proof and trail. Keep records of transactions.
