I have been living in Japan for a few months and have discovered that a decent amount of the population here is fairly sexually active. With that fact STDs are bound to occur.
My question is what is the general perception of STDs/STIs? The majority of communicable diseases is curable within a week or so, but what about things that aren’t? I. e. the herpes family.

I’m desperate to know how you made this discovery
don’t play nama roulette
Post history is short and beautiful. Like a haiku. Military bro has learned Japanese culture so well
What I heard: very common, very taboo to talk about. You’ll never hear about it, but look up gonorrhea in Japan, you’ll read some scary stuff.

🌟 condoms 🌟
no, seriously. syphilis is on the rise.
and there’s the added protection against pregnancy !
STDs in Japan generally say “ごめなさい“ first before they enter. Often it’s pretty quiet so you have listen for it.
FYI Japan has a number of untreatable STDs such as antibiotic resistant Gonorrhoea. The new, super-resistant strain is called H041.
Use protection!
recently on twitter one of the trending topics was 梅毒増加 (STDs rapidly increasing) with the name of the prime minister.
