I’ve found watching Peppa Pig to be a great supplement to grinding kanji and the tango books. (jappeppa on YouTube is great for this)
I like that it covers a wide variety of daily life situations with limited vocabulary.
Can anyone recommend a Japanese equivalent?

Shimajiro for sure. You can also find Japanese Sesame Street on YouTube.

おじゃる丸 It is for Japanese people though, so although the vocabulary is easy it has a lot of accents and ye olde style speech.
