Alternatives to paying bills at Combini

Hello,

a somewhat stupid question, but before surrendering to the charges I wanted to know if there was some interesting alternative.

I receive my rent, electricity and gas bills at home and I need to pay them at Combini, which charges 10% of the value of the bill.

Are there alternatives to paying the bills through Combini?

The charge is the same at all Combini or depends on the brand?

  1. Yes, credit cards and sometimes withdrawal from banks.

    >which charges 10% of the value of the bill.

WTF? In my experience, usually the charge for requesting combini slip is a flat 350 yen (more or less).

  2. huh? I’ve never been charged 10% of any bill to be paid at convenience store. how are you coming up with this number?

and to answer your question, yes just setup direct bank account withdrawal with whatever utility company you are using.

  3. 10% if paid by konbini? That’s false. It’s only 100yen.

Also alternative to not pay 100yen is through direct deduction from your bank account.

  4. I can pay one of my bills via my Epos credit card’s app, and the other one via PayPay.

  5. Usually you need to link your card or bank account to the bill. The conbini slips are meant to act as a temporary solution. Although you can keep using them. I don’t think they can charge you additional 10%, that is nonsense.

  6. Most bills can be set to direct debit from your bank account, or a credit card. Check the website of your utilities for 支払い方法。 I recommend this (especially for stuff like pension and taxes where if you miss a payment it can have an impact on your immigration status) because we see a lot of people posting on this subs who lose/forget a bill and get in trouble.

Bills marked with a “PayEasy” logo can also be paid manually through your internet banking with most banks.

I think PayPay also has a bill pay feature to pay by scanning the bill with the camera on your phone.

  7. Direct autopay. Give each account your money account info and then they will withdraw the funds when it’s due. No fees and no dealing with paper slips / accidentally forgetting.

  8. I pay everything with PayPay. Out of the way right away after it arrives.
    Rent just with bank transfer.

  9. Not sure about your bills but I pay my bills using the paypay app with the barcode scanner.

  10. Stupid answer, but have you tried asking the counterpart of those bills?

  11. I’m sorry, maybe I got confused between Combini fee and some taxes on the value: I got a bill of 3446JPY and paid 313 on top of it, so I thought they were Combini fees, but they may be taxes. I will check next time I pay if they give me a breakdown of the payment.

  12. I have my gas through JA Group (since I live in the country) and have to walk there (about 30 minutes – it’s the next settlement over) and pay in person. Combini is not possible. But you could view that as an advantage.

  13. was never charged more than what was stated on the bill, but recently i started paying using LinePay

alternatively you can use PayPay too

  14. I have never been charged extra from these bills. And since a few years ago I’ve been paying my electric and gas bills via PayPay (Not PayPal).

Water and internet bills can’t be paid with it yet.

  15. I pay my electricity bill at a convenience store (usually 711) and never been charged a cent more than the bill. My gas bill however I have to pay at the post office/JP post bank as it doesn’t come with a barcode. If you pay the bill that way, this is done via a special slot on the ATM machine on-site and in that instance there is a fee involved (about 350 yen) so this may be what you might be referring to?

  16. Direct withdrawal from your bank is the way, the majority of companies offer this

  17. I’ve never paid any money at a conbini for paying bills. Sounds like you need to go to a different one.
