Are there any places easily accessible from Yokohama by train? (i.e. suitable for a day trip and not requiring a car or long chain of bus-train-bus-train, etc.)
I’ve visited a few places like Takao-san, Sagami-ko, etc. Very nice and relaxing treks. So, I’m looking for something similar. Easy to access from Yokohama and good for hiking.
Not really mountain climbing, just nice areas to hike for a day trip.
Any ideas are welcome!

Mount Oyama ? Not too far from Yokohama and there seems to be a couple of hiking trails. I have not been, but it is in my list of place that can be interesting to go.
There is a Odakyu pass to access the area, so maybe something to check [https://www.odakyu.jp/english/passes/tanzawa_oyama/](https://www.odakyu.jp/english/passes/tanzawa_oyama/)
Ōyama on your radar yet?
JR train to North Kamakura. walk towards kamakura and head into the temples that lead up to Hensbo temple. the top of that hill starts the Ten-en hiking trail.
it does a loop around/above kamakura.
plenty of options branch off of that trail that come back down to train stations on either side of the peninsula
10/10 amazing views and ancient trails
Maybe Hakone
I second Kamakura for good hiking.
If you’re ambitious, Nokogiriyama in Chiba is reachable via train and ferry.
Keikyu or JR Yokosuka Line to Kurihama, then take a short bus connecting to the Tokyo Bay Ferry.
The trail or the ropeway is accessible from the port which is near Hamakanaya Station.
Mt Ono has good views to Fuji and an easy hike [https://en.japantravel.com/kanagawa/hiking-mt-ono-with-views-of-mt-fuji/19057](https://en.japantravel.com/kanagawa/hiking-mt-ono-with-views-of-mt-fuji/19057)
Tanzawa is nice, especially in winter.
I can’t find the original source of how I got to know this hiking trail (some links I saved are now 404), but here is one:
* From Odawara station take the Izuhakone Daiyuzan line to Daiyuzan 大雄山 (terminal)
* From Daiyuzan station take the bus to Doryoson 道了尊 (Bus No 2 if they haven’t changed it)
* Saijoji Temple 最乗寺 in itself is kind of neat to visit, but there is a hiking trail there to Myojingatake 明神ヶ岳 (in the Hakone area).
* From the top of Myojinigatake you can go straight down to Gora station if you feel you had enough for today… or go on along the ridge line to Kintokiyama 金時山 and head down from there.
* This hike (from Saijoji to Myojingatake, then to Gora station) was about 12 km, climbing 800 meters from start.
I did this hike in 2017 and found it very nice, with views of the surrounding area and the remains of a what seemed to have been a ropeway. I did the hike in November and found the top of Myojingatake a bit chilly (as it was cloudy that day) if you’re planning on doing this soon (assuming you’re in Japan now) wait for a sunny day.
Go to Enoshima island. Lots of stairs up and down. It’s quite the hike! You could visit Enoshima and Kamakura in the same day.
I would highly recommend you explore segami shimin no mori (瀬上市民の森). I’ve been walking and jogging there in summer and autumn and it was very beautiful. I’d approach from Konandai station and enter the park bearing to the left of Yokohama Sakae HS. Should be a very lovely little excursion for you.
Definitely Kamakura. I visited many years ago during my one week look-see before moving to Tokyo for my employer, and was blown away by its grace and beauty. Dai-butsu, the Great Buddha is there and there is a touching shrine I call the Mother’s Shrine.
A bit farther off, but would Ito Peninsula be within your considered range? There are several nice trails there, and IMO it’s be a great combination of a hike and then spending the night in an onsen (if you’re on budget, I’ll recommend K’s House Ito Onsen warmly!).
not sure how well this will work. but here is a route i did from Kamakura to the other train line. it is a little pavement to get up to the trail behind Ikego base. i would recommend turning back towards Kamakura after coming down the mtn trail.

“Taura Ume No Sato” & “Kurihama Hana No Kuni” are both beautiful during the spring. Go to see the Plum blossoms for the first and poppies/cosmos for the second. Both parks are great for an uphill leisurely stroll and both easily accessible via the Keikyu line.
